BERLIN, July 9 (Reuters) – Germany takes seriously a report that China’s BGI Genomics is passing personal DNA data to Chinese authorities and is discussing the matter with the relevant Berlin ministries and the European Commission, a health ministry spokesperson said.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

BGI, which sells prenatal tests around the world developed them in collaboration with the country’s military and is using them to collect genetic data from millions of women for sweeping research on the traits of populations, a Reuters review of scientific papers and company statements found.<\/p>

This isn’t new, in fact the Obama-Biden Presidency facilitated the expansion of BGI Genomics here in America. The Trump administrations Homeland Security and Department of the State had to block states from using the firms COVID test kits. The Obama partnership started in 2012 and was highly controversial at the time as many American’s saw it as a national security threat since BGI is affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party, Huawei<\/a>, and is partnered with the Genebank program, a collection of DNA sequences that is approved and funded by the Chinese Government.<\/a><\/p>

BGI was at it again by re-engaging at the state level here in the United States, the Department of Homeland Security warned authorities in Nevada not to use the 250,000 COVID test kits.<\/p>

The co-founder of BGI praised the agreement, celebrating the forthcoming \u201cscientific breakthroughs in the areas of human, plant and animal genomics.\u201d He also revealed that the collaborative efforts focused on sequencing genomes\u2014the precise activity flagged for national security threats in the 60 Minutes segment:<\/p>

\u201cHaving contributed to the Human Genome Project as well as sequencing the genomes of many critical plant and animal species and human diseases, including the initial sequencing of the rice genome as well as our involvement in the Rice 10,000 Genome Project, the 1,000 Plants and Animals Genome Project, the International 1,000 genomes project, the 1,000 Rare Diseases Project, the International Cancer Genome Project, Autism Genome 10K, among others, BGI looks forward to partnering with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in this significant collaboration to apply genomics research to benefit global human health.\u201d<\/em><\/p>
